Greetings! What's new? This website is new, and thanks for checking it out. I hope you find what you're looking for, and then some. Please feel free to contact me with questions, comments or suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
On this page I will attempt to keep you posted on new projects I've been working on, and anything else that might be of interest to me, and consequently to you. With that said, here's what I've been working on recently.
I have produced a CD for Target Stores. The CD is called "Oh Father, Bluegrass Praise". It is a recording of traditional Bluegrass Gospel music. Mostly songs with a few instrumentals, it features some great harmony singing and fine picking. You can only get it at Target Stores. The release date is July 26th. Look for the Lifescapes kiosk at any Target Store, you should find it under the Christian Music series called The Harvest. Check it out, it is a great record.
I'm also putting the finishing touches on two other recordings at the moment. The first is another collection of all original music for the Red House Records label. The working title for the recording is "Five Saturdays in March". The music was composed for the five Prairie Home Companion broadcasts I was on in March of 2002. I got so much great response from the listeners about the music I had written that I decided to re-record the pieces in the studio, using the "Guys All Star Shoe Band" (the house band from Prairie Home Companion) and also a few other musicians to enhance the music. It sounds great, and I should be done mixing mixing it by the end of June. There is no release date as of yet, but you can keep track at the Red House website, or I'll keep you updated right here.
The second project, also in the final stages, is a recording of live performances of the Mando Boys, a fez-headed mandolin quartet I used to be associated with. The recordings were taken from live concerts back in the 1980's. Excellent performance, good sound, and lots of tunes that were not on the original Red House recording "Peter Ostroushko Presents the Mando Boys". For anyone who loves mandolin music, or just good music at all, this CD is a must. At this point I'm hoping for a fall release, and it will only be available from this website. I'll keep you posted... let me know if you're interested! I'm also starting to work on the mandolin quartet transcriptions of the music from the new CD. I'm hoping to have the scores available for purchase on this website sometime next year.
Last, but not least, I continue to work on my transcriptions of Irish fiddler John Doherty. John Doherty, who passed away in 1980, was a brilliant fiddler, with an amazing repertoire of tunes. I fell in love with his music a few years ago and have been transcribing his style and repertoire on the musical page ever since. Tapes of his music are hard to come by because he was rarely commercially recorded. I have managed to track down quite a bit of it, and have even gone to Ireland to see if I could find more. To date I have a few hundred of his tunes transcribed, and still have more to go. I would love to see his music preserved and played for generations to come. I hope to publish these transcriptions in the near future. I also plan on recording some of Doherty's tunes as a companion piece to the book. Let me know if you have any information about John Doherty and his music, or if you have any interest in this project.
That's it for now...
Peter
